About The Book

Freedom Town Summer

This is the fourth book of our Freedom Town Series. Freedom Town is now a collection of 53 homestead claims clustered along the Purgatoire River in the southeastern Colorado Territory, totaling 8,480 acres. The first homesteaders departed from Louisiana the day that Lee surrendered to Grant to end the Civil War.  All but three people – a white woman and two Choctaw Indians — were former slaves. The situation was never easy for them. The people have had to deal with mule rustlers, thwart a train robbery, save a stranded Swiss couple, save wounded wagon drivers, rescue a kidnapped friend, fend off attacks from thieves, prevent a sawmill from a hostile takeover, survive cattle stampedes, tangle with a buffalo hunter, save the old Louisiana plantation, and deal with losing spouses. But, all in all, the community has survived and thrived.
