A New Mountain Generation is the sixth book of a seven-book series.  It begins twenty-five years after the previous book.  Many new babies have been born, and several main characters have died.  Wyatt Cannon’s ancestors established the Cannon Trust, which serves as the umbrella for the book.  Wyatt is now the Chairman of the sprawling conglomerate.  The book opens with Wyatt’s father, John Cannon, at death’s door.John dies as expected.  Wyatt and Ashley’s sons, JD and TG, arrive just in time for John’s memorial service and burial.  TG is the Trust’s top cutting horse rider and is doing quite well.  JD is a PH (professional hunter) in South Africa.  Their daughter, Angie, is the Assistant to the Chairman.Joe and Carrie Sheffield’s son, Manny, is a  Marine sniper assigned to a SEAL team and is a few months from retiring.  Manny and his team take down an Afghan Taliban leader, a hazardous mission, but they are successful.  He was shipped back to the States to a specialized PTSD treatment facility and discharged from the Marines.
